A Year of Unpredictable Wonders: 15 Heartfelt Reflections - Part 1

As the year has unfolded with unexpected twists and turns, it has brought with it a spectrum of emotions and experiences. A journey that has offered a wealth of valuable lessons, which I hope to have truly embraced. The spiral of time will surely reveal whether I have learned them well, as life has a way of bringing recurring challenges if we haven't fully absorbed its teachings the first time around.

Here is a selection of my insights, presented as suggestions, or I should say notes to myself where I can come back to when I need a gentle reminder. Maybe you'll read them in a moment when you find them helpful.

The heart's voice is most often gentle and quiet, making it hard to discern amidst the clamour of louder, competing voices.

Yet, when you finally hear it, embrace its guidance with courage. Following your heart may lead to difficult decisions that could cause pain, but this does not mean the decision is wrong. If you're unsure about how to proceed right now, treat yourself with kindness and compassion. Avoid criticizing yourself for your perceived shortcomings and celebrate the small triumphs instead.

Louder voices aren't always right - if there is such a thing at all as "right".

Other people's opinions don't define who you are unless you allow them to.

Your perspective, my perspective, your narrative, my narrative—these are exactly that, viewpoints and stories. They do not represent the absolute truth. It is important to acknowledge that you most likely cannot (and it's unnecessary to try to) change the opinion of others. Accepting this in your heart can lead to a more peaceful mind.

Love yourself fiercely, especially in moments when you feel unloveable. You are wonderful and you deserve all the love in the world.

Be as kind to yourself as you would be to your "bestest" friend, especially when you're about to criticise yourself for a decision you took or didn't take.

Do your best with what you have.

If you have taken a decision in an unskilful manner, and who hasn't at some point in life, remain compassionate and kind to yourself. Know that next time you'll do better.

You are most likely not as alone as you might feel.

Reach out for help when you need it and allow yourself to be surprised. Allow yourself to accept help and say thank you from your heart.

Don't believe your thoughts, or if you do, then cultivate loving and uplifting thoughts. Ones that empower you. This might take some practice, but it's absolutely worth the effort.
